Michael Assey

Michael, a native of Charleston, South Carolina, developed a love for golf at the age of 10, thanks to his father’s influence. This early introduction to golf ignited a lifelong passion that has shaped both his personal and professional journey. Michael attended Erskine College from 2010 to 2014, where he earned a degree in Political Science and played for the college golf team on a scholarship. During his time at Erskine, he was twice recognized as team MVP.
In 2016, Michael earned the East Chapter Player of the Year award and secured the Chapter Championship title. That same year, he played a key role in helping the Georgia PGA defend the Assistants Cup against the Tennessee PGA. Michael further cemented his status as one of the region’s top players by claiming his second Chapter Championship title in 2020.
After earning his Class A PGA certification in 2019, Michael honed his skills as an Assistant Golf Professional at Wilmington Island Club before joining Savannah Country Club as Head Professional. In this role, Michael’s commitment to the game and dedication to the Club’s members are evident in his daily work and interactions. Michael’s expertise extends beyond his teaching and playing career—he was recognized as one of MIZUNO’s Top 100 Fitters from 2017 to 2019, showcasing his deep knowledge of club fitting and equipment. This skill allows him to help players optimize their equipment for improved performance.
In addition to his work on the course, Michael is deeply involved in youth development and community service. In 2021, the Georgia PGA honored him for his efforts in youth player development. The following year, he received the prestigious Patriot Award from the Georgia PGA for his work with Folds of Honor, an organization supporting the families of fallen and disabled military members.
From 2021 to 2023, Michael served as captain of the Southeast Chapter’s PGA Junior League team, leading them to compete in the 2021 State Championship. His leadership and dedication to nurturing young talent have made a lasting impact on the league.
Michael’s unwavering passion for golf and his dedication to growing the game, both on and off the course, continue to define his career. He remains a trusted and respected figure within the golfing community, and his contributions to the sport are felt far and wide.

Brandon Kastelic is an accomplished Assistant Golf Professional with a passion for the game! Hailing from Hickory, NC, golf has been a part of his life since he could walk. His father, Gordon, who played collegiate golf at Michigan University, imparted invaluable knowledge and skills to him. In his early years, Brandon was a self-taught player, and his dedication led him to become one of the top 50 high school players in the state of North Carolina.
Continuing his golf journey, he embarked on his PGA career in the picturesque mountains of North Carolina. Brandon's journey led him to The Country Club of Sapphire Valley, where he began as an Assistant Golf Professional. Over the three years, he ascended to the role of Lead Assistant Professional. In January 2024, Brandon made a move to the low country, bringing his expertise and enthusiasm to a new community. He is devoted to getting to know the members, and is determined to go above and beyond to contribute to their golfing enjoyment.

Arnold Frantz is the Golf Course Superintendent at Savannah Country Club, bringing a wealth of expertise and passion to the role since joining the team in August 2021. A proud graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Agronomy, Arnold has a deep understanding of turf management and environmental stewardship. His commitment to maintaining the pristine condition of the course reflects his dedication to both the game of golf and sustainable practices. At SCC, Arnold works tirelessly with the support of the maintenance staff to enhance the golfing experience for members and guests, ensuring that the grounds remain in top shape year-round.
